At least he’s a being a bigger man than our commander-in-chief and admitting he fucked up rather than continually denying no matter how obvious the evidence is getting. Not that that’s saying much, more of a statement on how fucked up the world is that a recognized slimeball has more spine than the president.

One of the senators just asked him, “Do you really intend to start charging people to use Facebook if they don’t want their data mined?” Zuck should have said, “Well, senator, this IS a business. We can’t give this away for free.” I get the sense that most of the senators on the panel, while they have been briefed, are woefully out of touch with the information age.

Are we mad they took our data, or are we mad they used our data for malicious purposes? If we agreed to data mining in exchange for a free service, are we really in a position to complaint? We should focus on how facebook still fails to verify fake news which is exactly what CA did with their data.
Like think of it this way, if there was a way for facebook to charge me for their services I would not have a Facebook account, and I have my eyes wide open about google using oodles of my data to perfect their advertising features; it’s just what their businesses are made around. If I was an important person I might perhaps give a shit about them collecting my data, but I’m not special, and thus neither is my data other than for statistical significance.

Are we mad they took our data, or are we mad they used our data for malicious purposes?
I think it’s the latter. Orrin Hatch is talking about just that right now. I think that people always knew that their data was being used by Facebook, but not necessarily by others. I think the whole world is finally understanding just how powerful this data can be, and how actors, both malicious and otherwise, are using it for social engineering.
My decision never to have a FB account is looking better and better. Which is not to say that Google doesn’t have all the dirt on me.

The conversation they were just having about whether or not Facebook is a tech company or a publisher is an interesting one. And they only just barely touched on it, but I don’t think a lot of people realize what the ramifications would really be if FB is considered a publisher. I think it would have negative ramifications for the press. At least Zuckerberg kept staunchly saying he thinks FB is a tech company. It’s probably the only good thing he’s done so far.

This guy fails. Tie is tied like a drunk frat guy did it, suit jacket is also too big.
